Donea Almir geeft deze lente en zomer verschillende workshops over botanie: leer meer over de plant, observeer en leg vast met tekst en tekeningen in een journal. Bekijk hieronder de workshops en wanneer ze gegeven worden.
Leer alles over een plant, waarom hij daar groeit en hoe je een plant of vrucht observeert en vastlegt op papier. Je hoeft geen tekenervaring te hebben. Bekijk en proef bijzondere planten van het seizoen, vaak zijn er natuurkundige materialen aanwezig en kijken we ook door de microscoop. Dompel je even onder in een heel andere wereld; een heerlijke uitstap op ons natuurgoed. De workshops worden gegeven in Engels.

Workshop Plant & place

The workshop is open to anyone, specialist or non-specialist, who is interested in nature and plants, enjoys exploration, and is curious about contemporary ideas related to plants, place, and identity.
The “Plant and Place” workshop is an interactive, concept-based experience that invites participants to explore the wild plants of the site, discover their traces and diversity, and uncover the role they play in shaping the natural identity of the place. In this workshop, participants will experience the following:
- Trace at least one wild plant species on the site map through an outdoor walk in nature.
- Study the chosen species through a series of exploratory questions and simple research tools.
- Get introduced to the concept of ethnobotany and its applications by working with the selected plant.
- Share and exchange different kinds of knowledge in order to better understand the plant identity of the place
Workshop duration: 3.5 hrs.

Workshop From plant to icon
Wordt gegeven op zaterdag 18 april en zaterdag 16 mei
The workshop is a hands-on artistic and conceptual exercise in which participants, after studying a plant, learn how to transform it into a geometric icon—that is, an abstract geometric form. The plant is selected from the study site.
The workshop aims to study the plant from a morphological point of view and to train the mind to create an iconic symbol that can be used in different contexts, or simply as a way to express and represent that plant species.
What will participants do?
- Choose one wild plant species from the site (or continue working with the species selected in the previous workshop).
- Attend a short introductory talk on the ideas of abstraction and icons in art, and how a plant can be transformed into an icon.
- Experiment first through sketching to explore the plant form (this may also include a brief biological explanation, discovering some facts about plants, or observing them under a microscope).
- Create the final icon using colored paper (cutting and pasting).
- Take home a copy of their own work, and contribute other copies to a collective piece: either assembling them on a board representing the site (“Wild Icons of the Site”) or creating small icons and placing them on the map they worked on in the previous workshop.
Workshop duration: 3.5 hrs.

Workshop The art of herbarium

This workshop teaches participants how to dry plants in both an artistic and scientific way, following clear and detailed guidelines. After learning the process, participants will work together in small groups to create dried wild plant bouquets representing the site’s vegetation. Using plants that have been previously collected and dried, each group will collaborate to compose and arrange them in a thoughtful, creative, and visually harmonious way, resulting in a finished piece that takes the form of an artwork.
What participants will learn and do:
- A short introductory talk about herbaria: their history, purpose, and why they are important.
- A short practical talk on how to create a herbarium, including how to record essential biological information.
- Participants will then be divided into small groups (depending on the number of attendees) and will work together, with guidance from the instructor, to artistically compose and arrange the required dried plant bouquets.
- The workshop will conclude with each participant receiving a sample of the plant species they worked on and dried.

Drawing the herbarium

No prior experience is required, just a love for nature and a curiosity to learn and connect with it.
How do you draw a botanical herbarium after the plants have dried? This is the focus of this workshop. Participants from the previous workshop, as well as new participants, will work with previously dried plant specimens and learn how to translate them into drawings on paper. The workshop introduces techniques for carefully observing the dried sample, transferring its form, structure, and details into a drawing, and then developing the illustration into a clear and expressive botanical artwork. The focus is on learning how to move from the physical specimen to a drawn representation, combining careful observation with artistic interpretation.
Students will learn to:
- Draw herbarium specimens using pencil.
- Ink and shade the drawings with ink.
- Add tonal values using pittpatel.
Participants will take home their own finished artwork, which they can frame and hang or give as a gift.
Workshop duration: 4.5 hrs.
